what can I do this year?

There are many different organizations and efforts dedicated to providing people with opportunities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.  Although this is nowhere near an exhaustive list, the following are a few different opportunities to become active in the fight against cancer this year:

  • American Cancer Society, is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.
  • Hopkins 4k for Cancer, an organization based out of Johns Hopkins University, organizes a cross-country bike ride to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer. 
  • Relay For Life, a program of the American Cancer Society, is a community-based event that celebrates survivors, remembers those who have been lost along the way, and raises money for the programs of the American Cancer Society.
  • Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization, is an organization that hosts events around the country to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer.
  • Illini 4000 for Cancer, an organization based out of the University of Illinois, organizes a cross-country bike ride to raise money and awareness for the fight against cancer. 
  • Camp Kesem, a college student run organization, is a camp dedicated to young kids whose parents have or had cancer. 
  • Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, organizes a two day walk to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. 
  • American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, is a non-partisann organization that focuses on fighting cancer on the legislative front.  By joining you can help ACS advocate for legislative policy that helps the fight against cancer including researching funding, insurance coverage, and access to care. 
  • Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Team In Training, is an organization that helps train volunteers to accomplish a great athletic feat (like a full or half marathon, or an Olympic length triathlon) while raising money for the fight against cancer.
  • Susan G Komen for the Cure is a national organization dedicated to fighting breast cancer and also organizes a nation-wide series of walks and runs.
